Fede Alvarez’s reboot of the horror classic Evil Dead is a totally different beast from the 1981 original. Gone is the dark humour, this time it’s just dark, serious, sick and nasty! It certainly hits all the right horror / gore buttons, those poor cabin dwellers get to endure a whole vacation of pain and it all looks pretty fantastic with a good mixture of practical and CG horror FX. Fede Alavarez has managed to retain some of the spirit and the over the top violence of the original with every sharp object and item from the tool shed (yes it’s back!) being used to inflict injury and dismemberment. It’s probably not quite as memorable as the original but it’s a good effort and a worthy horror movie in it’s own right. We recommend watching right up to the very end of the credits…..
