If you’re a Cosplayer and are lucky enough to be photographed by Martin Wong you’ll definitely be adding that photograph to your portfolio! Martin Wong creates stunning, vibrant photographs capturing Cosplayers, their alter egos and costumes perfectly. We were lucky enough to be able to ask Martin Wong about his Cosplay Photography and the techniques he uses.

“I’ve recently started shooting Cosplay and I found it very enjoyable to work with a lot of amazing people. Just the simple fact that some people are making their own costumes from scratch excites me. Since I love colors, shooting Cosplays fits very well into my style because most Cosplays are very bright and colorful. I usually shoot fashion but Cosplays easily grab my attention, Cosplaying itself is a fashion statement. Another aspect that I love about shooting Cosplay is interacting with the people, these people are all part of a sub-culture that truly enjoy what they do.”

“I spend a lot of time on Photoshop with my pictures because I feel like I should dedicate my time and effort to perfect each picture just as Cosplayers commit to their Cosplays. I have been using Photoshop since I was 7 and it is a program that I am very comfortable with. Although, Photoshop offers a variety of ways to modify a picture, I still strongly believe that it’s important to know how to capture moments with the camera. Improving in both pre-processing (in camera) skills and post-processing (Photoshop) skills would significantly affect the art that you want to create. A lot of Photoshop works can actually be accomplished by using real filters and equipment, however, it is simply faster and easier to achieve a certain result with computer programs.”
