Marcus Dunstan’s The Collection is a completely different beast to the first 2009 Collector movie. The original film was seriously dark, focused on torture, pain and atmosphere, it was an uncomfortable watch. In The Collection the sadistic and twisted Collector has been busy scaling up his operation taking the killing to a whole new level – there’s a huge body count in this movie. It’s good that Marcus Dunstan hasn’t simply repeated the formula from the first film. He’s upped the stakes and The Collection is a much more entertaining horror movie, with plenty of inventive kills and great performances from Josh Stewart and Emma Fitzpatrick. Overall it’s a great ride, but unfortunately by changing the scale, it’s lost some of the reality that made the original movie so unsettling and scarey.
