We’ve finally got round to watching Peter Berg’s Sci-Fi Movie Battleship. The plot: A fleet of ships is forced to do battle with an armada of unknown origins in order to discover and thwart their destructive goals. First the good stuff – The special effects and alien design were pretty cool, we liked the ‘Michael Bay style’ Transformer spaceships and there were a couple of really impressive FX sequences…and that’s it.
We knew any film based around the board game Battleship was never going to be a Sci-Fi Classic but unfortunately Battleship fails to live up to even our lowest expectations. The biggest failing for us was the story, script and direction (that doesn’t leave much left!) it all felt rushed and thrown together and based around such a paper thin idea. Even the soundtrack didn’t help with huge Rock songs completely trashing any atmosphere or build up of tension. Sorry to be harsh but Battleship is just terrible.
