Each episode is crafted by different animation teams across the globe, deploying a vast range of animation styles, including 2D, stop-motion, anime, and hyper-realistic 3D CG. It’s a beautiful book, packed with a wealth of artwork and stories behind the creation of the series’ first three volumes. It also includes interviews with key artists and creatives such as series creators Tim Miller and David Fincher. As with previous Titan Books publications it’s a great quality art book, full to the brim with everything from beautiful concept art, character studies, costume sketches, paintings, vehicle designs, storyboards, and early vision decks, through to finished frames. The Art of Love, Death + Robots is an absolute must-have for fans of the Netflix series and for lovers of sci-fi, fantasy, horror concept art and animation. If there is a negative point, and it’s not really a negative point is that each episode or animation only gets a few pages, and we’d love to have seen more on each one – but the book would have had to have been huge! It’s testimony to the excellent series and this great art book that it’s left us wanting even more! It’s definitely one of our favourite art books of the year.
