We really enjoyed the first Piranha 3D film directed by Alexandre Aja, it had a group of likeable(ish) characters, good special fx, an unhealthy amount of nudity, genuine scenes of tension, some inventive kills, and it was fun. Unfortunately John Gulager’s Piranha 3DD is just a crude, charmless mess. The budget has obviously been cut back on this movie, but everything that was good about the original film has been sucked out of this rushed, poorly conceived sequel. Piranha 3DD doesn’t work on any level, the script, the direction, it’s not funny, the piranhas look rubbish, there’s not one character you care about – even the Hoff couldn’t save this movie.
